I was so dumbfounded, I needed an explanation. So, by my third glass I started D3 and HOLY FUCKING SHIT - THIS IS IT! The game looks, runs, and controls like a dream. I wish I did, but unfortunately the inventory management and comparatively basic character growth system were not for me. Resurrected is a lovely coat of paint on a radically faithful foundation that I have no affinity or nostalgia towards. And I am sad to say that it wasn’t clicking either. I started with D2R since I wanted to experience the legendary title I grew up hearing about but never played. Now, I have to preface by saying that I’ve never played D2, but I sunk hundreds of hours into D3 on PS3/4 and loved every second of it. I have to admit I was being a snob towards Switch- “no way it can outclass my Steam Deck in this category.” However, after a couple glasses of bourbons last night, I bought the Diablo Prime Evil Collection on Switch.

I then thought about D2R and D3 on Steam Deck, but that forced me to jump through hoops to install and play, which ultimately didn’t pay off because I was left feeling the same- “I’m not having the optimal, intended experience.” None were clicking as they all made me feel I shouldn’t play them on a portable. In one week, I tried Path of Exile, Last Epoch, and Grim Dawn on Steam Deck. I asked around Era and received lots of great suggestions, however I had two major constraints: I want to play this supposed ARPG portably (either on Steam Deck or Switch) and, since I’m casual scum, I wanted something that’s easy to wrap my head around, pick up, and play. I wanted something to scratch the itch until the June release date. Like millions of people, I was having withdrawals from the two D4 beta weekends.
